A (Relatively) Short LGBTQ+ Dictionary Part 2

A couple more common identities:

Pansexual- Pansexuality is the attraction to people regardless of gender. This is not to be confused with Bisexuality which is the attraction to two or more genders whereas Pansexuality is the attraction to people for reasons that are irrelevant to gender.

Asexual- Asexuality is the sexual attraction to no genders. Asexuals do not experience sexual attraction to any gender but can still have sex, masturbate, hold romantic relationships, and feel romantic and aesthetic attraction.

Non Binary- Non Binary is a general terms for someone is does not conform to the genders male or female. Some non binary genders are Agender (someone who doesn't have a gender), Bigender (someone that identifies with two or more genders), and Genderfluid (someone who fluctuates between genders)

Drag- Drag is not a gender nor a sexuality, drag is a performance art where typically men dress as women although drag can be done by any gender. Drag performers are most often gay men although many early drag queens were transgender women. Although drag is not an identity it is a very importantly part of the community

.

Okay, now that you (hopefully) have a basic understanding of the most common identities in our community it is time to address slang and general terms you'll here in an LGBTQ+ situation.

Transitioning- transitioning is the process most transgender people do physically and socially so that it is easier for others to perceive them as their actual gender as well as to feel comfortable within themselves.

Binder- A binder is a compressive shirt many trans men use to conceal their breasts.

MtF or FtM- (Male to Female) or (Female to Male) are terms used to explain whether or not a person is transitioning from a male anatomy to their female gender or their male anatomy to their female gender. Some people do not like this term because it suggest that they were previously a different gender or because it is not inclusive of non binary identities.

Butch/dyke- These are words (many people find them offensive) that refer to masculine lesbians

lipstick/tomboy- These are terms that address lesbians who are not quite feminine yet not butch.

fem/lipstick- These are terms used to describe lesbians who are very feminine and girly

Bear- Bear is a term that refers to a larger gay man, typically round and hairy.

Twink- This term refers to gay men who are typically skinny, feminine, and flamboyant (this term can be offensive)

Cishet- This is a word that means Cisgender and Heterosexual. Someone who identifies with their assigned sex and is attracted to the opposite gender.

There are many more terms and identities in our complicated community, if you are unsure of anything you can research or ask as through our email (lgbt.unitedfilm@gmail.com) and if you'd like to learn more about the identities in the simplified acronym we have a series of short films on our YouTube channel that may help.

Best of Luck and Have Pride!
